Coco palm sugars are natural, unrefined sweeteners made from the
fresh flower sap of the coconut. Production is artisanal and limited
because harvesting is done by hand, without using any preservatives to
extend the freshness of the sap (typically, about 3 hours). The sap is
then boiled for water to evaporate until only the sugar crystals remain.
Each Coco Palm Sugar Tubaw Bag contains about a pound of pure Coco
Palm Sugar (400g). Also available are Coco Palm Sugar Boxes in
hand-woven banig (palm-leaf) boxes tied with Abaca twine, wherein you
get a 150g bag of our regular coco palm sugar variety.
The tubaw-bags were done In the spirit of the Japanese custom of Furoshiki
(an ancient practice of folding fabric or wrapping items in fabric,
which is also making a comeback in many eco-conscious circles), we
are using the colorful Tubaw
(Mindanao ethnic headdress) to wrap your gift package. It certainly
appeals to our advocacy of protecting the environment (minimal and
recyclable packaging), and at the same time promote Philippine culture,
especially that of Mindanao.
Not
only are these gifts tasty treats, they're also eco-friendly and very
Pinoy. (And you also help us out in our advocacy for increasing
livelihood opportunities in rural communities in Zamboanga.)
